BPO Education Center and Gdansk Labour Office jointly train accountants for Bayer and thyssenkrupp

On Friday, September 30, 2016, the BPO Education Center and Job Office training ended at the Talent Development Center. Thanks to the cooperation of these two institutions, which have their headquarters in Olivia Business Centre, 14 people have found employment in the positions of junior accountant. All of them have completely changed their professions so far. The next edition of the training will start at the beginning of November 2016.

The free training in Corporate Accounting, financed by the Gdańsk Labour Office, started in mid-June 2016. The course conducted by the BPO Education Center at the Sopot University of Applied Sciences was divided into a didactic and practical part – in the form of internships in the shared services centers of Bayer Service Center Gdańsk and thyssenkrupp Group Services Gdańsk, located in Olivia Business Centre.

During 240 hours of theoretical classes, 15 people selected during the recruitment process at the Gdańsk Labour Office gained knowledge in the field of accounting, but also in the structure and procedures of companies in the BPO/SSC (shared services), financial and accounting systems (SAP ERP) and advanced use of spreadsheets. In addition, the participants of the training took part in as many as 60 hours of German language classes. A good knowledge of the language, especially vocabulary related to accounting, was a prerequisite for successful completion of the course. Each of the subjects conducted during the training ended with an exam.

After two months of study, the course participants started 320-hour internships at Olivia Business Centre Residents: Bayer SCG and thyssenkrupp GSG. On 30 September, all participants received certificates of completion of the course and from 3 October they started working in the above-mentioned companies that were involved in the training process from the very beginning.

BPO Education Center is a unit of the Sopot University of Applied Sciences, which for over 3 years has been helping the inhabitants of the region to acquire competences and skills necessary in financial services centers. With measurable results, because so far, 90 per cent of students have found a job immediately after completing the “Corporate Accounting” course. its alumni – said Sylwia Broda from the Sopot University of Applied Sciences. – The next, ninth edition of this project differs from the others in that it is the first time that several entities residing in Olivia Business Centre have undertaken such fruitful cooperation, thus showing a new face of “good neighbourly practices”. This training will also be a starting point for career development for the most ambitious participants. We are already receiving signals from some graduates that they would like to continue their education at our university as part of the prestigious postgraduate studies in Finance and Accounting ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

Any employer with a registered office in Gdańsk and the Gdańsk district can report to the Gdańsk Labour Office with a demand for employees for specific positions. If the search for people with a given professional profile does not bring any results, the Labour Office can organise training courses for a guarantee of employment under tripartite agreements. These projects are aimed at changing the profession learned by jobseekers – said Anna Hryniewicz from the Job Office. – The training that has just been completed was prepared for the needs of Bayer and thyssenkrupp, which were looking for employees for the position of junior accountant. Thanks to the branch of the Gdańsk Labour Office in Olivia Business Centre, i.e. Job Office, companies can easily submit their needs.

We are very glad that thanks to the decisions made a few years ago, we are able to create better and better conditions for our Residents in recruitment,” said Agnieszka Zglinicka, Project Director at Olivia Business Centre. – The presence of large, international enterprises, HR companies, Job Office and Talent Development Centre – i.e. branches of the Gdańsk Labour Office opened this year – in one place brings the desired effect. We believe that the activity for the enlargement of the so-called talent pool and job creation will be appreciated not only by global companies, but also by businesses and residents of the region.

From the very beginning, one of the main assumptions of Olivia Business Centre in Gdańsk Oliwa was multifunctionality, including support for Residents in the field of recruitment. Currently, there are a total of 10 entities operating in the centre (commercial and local government), whose main area of activity is Human Resources.

The Olivia Business Centre team also takes care of the work-life balance of all people working in the centre: business, educational, cultural and sports events are regularly held here. In April 2016, a modern, two-storey, round-the-clock fitness club CityFit was opened. All visitors to the centre are already m.in at their disposal. 3 conference centres, a medical centre with a pharmacy, 3 restaurants, 2 cafés, a kindergarten and a nursery, 4 banks, a modern gymnasium, a beauty salon, a notary public and an electric car charging point. There are almost 2000 parking spaces, over 200 bicycle racks and 5 changing rooms with showers at Olivia Business Centre.

There are over 100 entities operating in Olivia Business Centre. These include global corporations, companies from the SME sector, startups, as well as local government and non-governmental organizations. The residents of Olivia Business Centre are, m.in, Allianz, Alior Bank, Amazon, Bayer, Energa, Epam, Generali, Hays, Medicover, Noble Bank, PKO Bank Polish, PwC, Sii, T-Mobile, thyssenkrupp , as well as the Pomerania Development Agency, the Pomeranian Regional Chamber of Commerce, PZP Lewiatan and BPO Education Center.

The Centre has been systematically expanding since 2010. at the rate of one building per year. In June 2016, the cornerstone was laid for the Olivia Star skyscraper, which will be the tallest building in northern Poland and will be included in the list of the ten tallest buildings in the country.
