Good tones. The great premiere of the Olivia Centre Choir’s album!

Admission

It is with great pleasure that we present to you the album – the result of the work and talent of people whose paths met in Olivia and were united by their love for music. It’s a unique album, woven from sounds, commitment of the whole band and authentic emotions.

Perhaps some of you will be surprised by the album released by the business center. However, this is one of those cases when we feel like a community in which the choir plays an important role.

The Olivia Centre Choir is a group of people working in various companies in the centre. It is a band that, after working hours, among everyday obligations, finds time to develop their talent and enjoy making music together. It is this joy that we wish to share today.

We present this album to you full of hope that the sounds recorded on it will bring you at least a little closer to the passion of the community that has been created around the Olivia Centre and is constantly developing.

Chapter 1

Baton Wanted

It started inconspicuously. From the musical sentiment of one person – Remigiusz Wojciechowski from Bayer. Music has always been important to him. Once, sitting in the audience of the philharmonic, he remembered the emotions that accompanied him when he sang in the choir. He thought he would like to have them in his life again. To do that, you needed people and a conductor. There was no shortage of people in the Bayer office, and a casting call for conductor was announced. Searches were made in the Tri-City and the surrounding area, messages were sent, telephones rang. After long talks, it was announced that Wiktoria Pagieła – a graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, an experienced conductor and winner of numerous competitions – would become the choir’s conductor. This is how the Bayer employee choir was formed, and here we could write that the choristers and the conductor sang happily ever after. And while that would be true, it’s worth adding a few details.

Remigiusz Wojciechowski, bass

Mój ulubiony moment w chórze następuje chwilę po tym najtrudniejszym: kiedy rozczytujemy nowy utwór i każdy głos mozolnie klei nutę za nutą. Najpierw soprany, potem alty, tenory i wreszcie basy. Poziom energii jest niski, trochę wieje nudą. Aż w końcu przychodzi moment, gdy zaczynamy składać głosy ze sobą, choćby na kilka taktów. Wtedy zaczyna się muzyka i radość ze wspólnego tworzenia.

Chapter 2

Everybody wants to sing

The news about the newly formed choir spread widely – the unusual initiative was impressive and it soon turned out that amateurs of choral singing can be found among many organizations. Less than a year later, the Bayer employee choir became the choir of the entire Olivia Centre. And so the team was joined by women and men, managers and specialists, seniors and juniors. They wanted to sing and they did, and Wiktoria’s baton combined many voices into one tone.

Chapter 3

Concert debut

They sang morning, night, on the way to work and in the shower, they sang in the offices and on their walks, they sang at every rehearsal, with all their hearts, until it was time to sing on stage. A spring concert was organized under the name Olivia Camerata: All That Jazz! The first concert is impossible to forget. Dressed in evening clothes, they performed three songs in front of a wide audience gathered in Olivia Star. There was no end to the applause! The choir rode the wave and a few months later performed an even more demanding repertoire at a concert at the Open House Gdańsk. Joint attempts and first successes brought people closer together. They enjoyed spending time together. Something important (and beautiful) happened between Ania and Wojtek. No wonder, Shakespeare was right when he said that music is the food of love…

Anna Ficek, soprano

I have been part of the choir since January 2019. For me, the choir was a return to music, to singing, which had always accompanied me. Thanks to the choir, my, so to speak, childhood passion awoke in me again. I’ve met great people here and found love, not only for music.

Chapter 4

Quiet

And then the pandemic hit… From one day to the next, choir rehearsals were cancelled and meetings became impossible. There was no way to train our voices together, to look into each other’s eyes and enjoy singing together. But people with passion will always find a way to pursue it, so they set off… online rehearsals, at a distance. The effort and determination were not in vain! The choir recorded, completely remotely, their first video, singing the song Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics.

Chapter 5

Spring

Autumn and winter passed, and the time had come when the heart of every choir member was yearning for music. Indoor rehearsals were still not a sensible idea, so the choir hesitantly started outdoor meetings. Spring Oliwa delighted with its beauty, and there was no shortage of places to sing. From timid rehearsals, a bold project was created – the choir’s second video, recorded for the song Seasons of love by Jonathan Larson. The time of separation was a difficult time for the friendships that formed between the notes.

Karolina Rymarczyk, soprano

Z Ewą poznałyśmy się na przesłuchaniach. Najbardziej zintegrował nas jednak nasz pierwszy chóralny projekt – praca nad teledyskiem do Seasons of love.

Ważnym momentem było nagranie teledysku do piosenki Seasons of love w urokliwym leśnym otoczeniu. Z Karoliną złapałyśmy wtedy kontakt i wspólną energię. Piosenka z musicalu Rent do dziś jest dla mnie bardzo ważna. Wspólna pasja buduje i może być początkiem pięknych znajomości!

Chapter 6

Where Music Flourishes

Again together, undefeated, they met for weekly rehearsals, rehearsing a completely new, exotic repertoire. A year-round tropical garden filled with plants from all over the world has been opened in Olivia Centre. Such a green space, pulsating with colours, inspired new musical explorations. In Olivia Garden, among ficus and banana trees, with the audience sitting on the boards of moso bamboo, during the next concert, traditional African Zulu folk songs resounded. The foreign-sounding language did not hinder understanding – every sound, bar, tone resounded with pure joy.

Chapter 7

Heart

On March 28, 2022, the words of the song Prayer for Ukraine flowed from the throats of more than a hundred choristers, including the Olivia Centre Choir. This is how the charity concert Heart with Ukraine began, organized in Olivia for refugees fleeing to Polish from the war-torn country. Its originator was Wiktoria Pagieła, a native of Zhytomyr. It was Wiktoria’s energy and persistence that allowed us to gather on one stage outstanding Ukrainian, Belarusian and Polish artists, who together performed a piece that was a prayer for a good fate for Ukraine, for wisdom, divine protection and many years for the country and its people.

Chapter 8

They sing happily ever after

Over the 5 years of its activity, the band has gained many new voices. However, there are also constant, unchangeable ones in it – one of them is the voice of Remigiusz – the initiator of the whole project. In the symbolic fifth year, the album is created. It is not only a record of the songs performed together, but above all of the stories of people who were unexpectedly brought together by a passion for music.

Chapter 9

Postscript

We hope that the album will not only provide you with musical and aesthetic impressions, but also inspire you to discover and develop your talents. The album was created as an expression of the desire to share with our friends and supporters the fruit of the passion of the Olivia Centre community. Thank you for being with us!

Welcome

Ignacy Mościcki – how did the king of nitrogen become president?

Independent Poland 1918-2022

Ignacy Mościcki achieved significant successes in several areas of activity. He was a committed activist, a political refugee, a talented chemist with numerous foreign patents, a factory administrator, a co-founder of a scientific institute and a mining company, an academic lecturer and rector of a university, and finally the President of the Republic of Poland. His successes would be enough to fill several biographies.

Ignacy Mościcki was born in Mierzanów in 1867. Initially, he was associated with the socialist movement. After graduating from school in Warsaw, he studied chemistry at the Riga University of Technology. There he joined the Polish underground left-wing organization Proletariat. After graduating from school, he returned to Warsaw, but because of his independence activities, he was hunted by the tsarist secret police. He was threatened with life imprisonment and exile to Siberia, which forced Mościcki to move in 1892. to London. In 1896. he was offered a position as an assistant at the University of Freiburg (Switzerland). It was there that he patented a method for the low-cost industrial production of nitric acid. In 1912, Mościcki moved to Lviv in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, i.e. in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, where he accepted a professorship of physical chemistry and technical electrochemistry at the Lviv Polytechnic. In 1925 he was elected rector of the Lviv University of Technology, but soon moved to Warsaw to continue his research at the Warsaw University of Technology.

After Józef Piłsudski’s May coup in 1926. Mościcki – Piłsudski’s former partner in the Polish Socialist Party – was elected president Polish, June 1, 1926 (after Piłsudski resigned from office). After the death of the Marshal in 1935. Piłsudski’s supporters were divided into three main groups: those who supported Mościcki as Piłsudski’s successor; those who supported General Edward Rydz-Śmigly and those who were closest to Prime Minister Walery Sławek.

Mościcki remained President of the Republic of Poland until September 1939, when, at the outbreak of World War II, he was interned in Romania and forced to resign by the French government. While in exile, he handed over the office to Władysław Raczkiewicz. In December 1939, with the consent of the Romanian authorities, Mościcki moved to Switzerland, where he lived during World War II. He died at his home near Geneva on 2 October 1946.

The initiative with which he is associated today is the investment foundation in the Second Republic of Poland for the creation of a giant on the chemical market – Grupa Azoty. It was on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Poland, Ignacy Mościcki, in 1927. The State Factory of Nitric Compounds was established in Tarnów.

Did you know?

  • To this day, Ignacy Mościcki remains the longest-serving president in the history of Polish.
  • Poland owes Mościcki as many as 40 patents, which he handed over to the Polish state free of charge after taking office.
  • As a scientist, he specialized in electrochemistry, and thanks to his research on electricity, he became a world authority in this field at the beginning of the twentieth century. As a technical manager at the Société de l’Acide Nitrique (which funded his research), he was the author of a method for producing nitric acid, which involves fixing nitrogen from the air using electricity. To this end, Mościcki personally constructed and patented high-voltage capacitors, which were not produced at the time, and whose value was estimated at one million francs.
  • In 1907, his devices were used in the transmitting mechanisms on the Eiffel Tower, in the largest capacitor bank in the world. The Polish inventor also won the recognition of Albert Einstein (who was then an expert of the patent office) for developing a technology for the reaction of oxygen and nitrogen in an electric arc, using a rotating flame in a magnetic field, used to obtain nitrogen from the atmosphere.
  • He was the author of over 60 scientific papers.
  • Being a poor hairdresser’s assistant, he did not accept tips, considering it dishonorable. He claimed that the salary paid to him was sufficient.
  • Unfortunately, he invested his money in a kefir factory, which, as it turned out later, was not worth the money he paid for it.
  • After Poland regained its independence, Mościcki founded a fertilizer factory in Chorzów, where his invention increased productivity by 150%.

Polish Power Grids open their offices in Olivia Centre

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne opens its offices in Olivia Centre – the largest Polish business centre. This is another energy company that has decided to conduct its business in this very place. Since the beginning of the project’s existence, the Olivia Gate building has housed the offices of Energa, a member of the Orlen Group.

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne is a strategic company owned by the State Treasury of particular importance for the Polish economy. It owns almost 16,000 kilometers of lines and 110 high-voltage substations. PSE plans to build and modernise more than 7,000 km of transmission lines by 2032.

The company’s Gdańsk office in Olivia Centre will be staffed by a team responsible for the implementation of projects for the construction of power stations and transmission lines necessary for the evacuation of m.in power. offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea and a nuclear power plant, as well as the operation of offshore connections. This is one of the priorities for the development of the Polish energy sector. The PSE team will work on the development of the necessary transmission infrastructure in the north of Polish to enable the removal of power from these sources and its delivery to customers in other parts of the country.

It was with great satisfaction that we received the information about the selection of Olivia as the office of a company developing key energy projects for the Polish economy ,” says Maciej Kotarski, Director of the Commercialization Department. For more than 10 years, Energa, a member of the Orlen Group, has been with us, with whom we jointly develop a number of social, ecological and integration projects. We believe that the opportunities offered by Olivia Centre will allow Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne to operate stably and develop modern projects in the field of Polish energy.

That’s how it went. A few words about the beginnings of Olivia’s Choir…

The premiere of the Olivia Choir’s album is just around the corner!
In the meantime, let’s remember the beginnings.
That’s how it went…

My favorite moment in the choir comes right after the most difficult one: when we’re reading
A new song and each voice laboriously glues together note after note. First the sopranos, then the altos, tenors and finally the basses. The energy level is low, a bit boring. And finally, there comes a moment when we start to put the voices together, even if only for a few bars. That’s when the music and the joy of creating together begins.

— Remigiusz Wojciechowski, bass

It all started with the musical sentiment of Remigiusz Wojciechowski from Bayer. Music has always been important to him. Once, sitting in the audience of the Philharmonic, he recalled the emotions that accompanied him when he sang in the choir. He thought he would like to have them in his life again. To do that, you needed people and a conductor. There was no shortage of people in the Bayer office, and a casting call for conductor was announced. It was won by Wiktoria Pagieła , a graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, and so, in 2018, the Bayer employee choir was formed. Less than a year later, it transformed into the choir of the entire Olivia Centre. Of course, we can do more together. He was joined by singing employees, AirHelp, Energa, GFKM, Nordea, Olivia Centre, PwC, Sii, Talkers and Thyssenkrupp.

Debut

The Olivia Business Centre Choir (as it was then called) made its debut on 25 April 2019 during the Easter Concert of the Olivia Camerata series. He presented three pieces:

  • „Oh Happy Day” Dona Howarda,
  • „Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, klasyczną balladę napisaną przez Harolda Arlena i E.Y. Harburga do filmu „Czarnoksiężnik z Oz” z 1939 roku,
  • „Can’t help folling in love” Elvisa Presleya z 1969 roku.

Let us just remind you that this Camerata began with a recital by Krystyna Gedzik and Ulyana Hedzik. We heard the greatest hits of jazz, gospel and folk. The finale was the performance of the Vita Activa orchestra, which has performed nearly 300 concerts in Poland and abroad. The orchestra has been operating since 1995 at the Polish Association for People with Intellectual Disabilities Koło in Gdańsk. The artists performed works by G.F. Händel, J. Offenbach, M. Mussorgsky, A. Pizzolli, I. Rekhin, G. Scherterberger, S. Joplin, J. Kandler, Q. Jones, arranged for percussion orchestra.

All That Jazz

We couldn’t forget that evening for a long time. Olivia Camerata: All That Jazz resounded with dozens of voices on September 14, 2019. The camerat’s repertoire abounded in everything that was rocking and energizing. The concert at Olivia Star was opened by Alexander Stupnikov, an artist and composer from the Schibsted company. He made one of the most outstanding works Frédéric Chopin “Fantaisie impromptu, op. cit. 66” and original works: “Polka in F major ” and “Autumn Waltz”. The second part featured the long-applauded Olivia Business Centre Choir, while the third part was a real jazz feast. We listened to an amazing swing performed by Krystyna Durys and the jazz band accompanying the vocalist.

The choir presented the following novelties:

  • „El ultimo Cafe” (tango) muz. Hector Stamponi
  • „Prende la Vela” muz. Lucho Bermundez (tenor solo: Hamish Potts, perkusja: Katarzyna Rozkosz)
  • „Volare” muz. Domenico Modugno

Sweet dreams

Although the pandemic interrupted live meetings and rehearsals, it did not prevent online musical contacts. Yes, it was difficult. Yes, it was a challenge, but there is nothing difficult for those who want to. Where there is passion, extraordinary things are born. And so, during the pandemic, the choir rehearsed and recorded – completely remotely – ” Sweet Dreams” by Eurythics. Let’s relive it.

And there’s a music video!

We will end this “episode” of mini-stories about our choir by reminding you of the first music video in the history of Olivia and the history of our choir. It was the big launch of spring 2020. “Seasons of Love ” from the Broadway musical “Rent”, written and composed by Jonathan Larson, was performed and presented by the Olivia Business Centre Choir on May 26. It’s no coincidence that we chose this day as the release date. It was a special day, Mother’s Day. And it is to mothers that this premiere is dedicated.

To be continued…

Let’s experience it again: “With a heart with Ukraine” – with music in the heart

We are waiting impatiently, because in a moment the debut album of the Olivia Centre Choir “Good Tony” will see the light of day. Of course, in front of us – and above all in front of the Choristers – Premiere concert! It will be a unique concert, because it will be a charity concert. We believe that it is worth doing good and we are convinced that #RazemMozemyWiecej, so this concert , as you can guess, will not be the first to support a noble cause. And so, let’s recall the charity concert debut of the Olivia Centre and Friends Choir – “Heart with Ukraine”. And we immediately invite you to the ” Good Concert” on December 6 on the 34th floor of Olivia Star.

The news of the war in Ukraine fell on us overnight. Everyone tried to help as much as they could: with their knowledge, talent, free time, helping hands. At that time, on the initiative of the Olivia Centre Choir (the originator of the event was Wiktoria Pagieła, the conductor of the Olivia Choir, who lives permanently in Poland and comes from Zhytomyr), we started working on a charity concert “Heart with Ukraine”. We engaged artists, created a script, and organized a safe space. It was a touching and unique event – on March 28, 2022, on the stage of the 34. Almost 100 artists performed on Olivia Star’s floor.

The concert was attended by: Zoya Rozhok, soprano from the Ukrainian National Opera; Sviatoslav Kondrativ, a well-known Ukrainian violinist and composer; Viktor Korunnyy, French horn player, soloist of the Lviv Philharmonic; Artem Storozhuk, a graduate of the Academy of Music Pyotr Tchaikovsky in Kiev and Liana Kasyun-Korunna, a Ukrainian pianist, graduate of the Lviv Academy of Music.

The artists were accompanied by Polish musicians and singers: the Cantores Veiherovienses choir conducted by Tomasz Chyła and the Olivia Centre Choir. We heard: Emilia Osowska – mezzo-soprano, Krzysztof Pawłocki – guitar ( Les Femmes); Art’n’Voices team; mezzo-soprano Marta Jundziłł, alto countertenor Jakub Borowczyk; flutist Magdalena Burkiewicz; Martyna Chomuszko – piano and pianist Maciej Baczyński.

The concert began with the performance of the Prayer for Ukraine by all the artists. “Great and only God, save Ukraine,” is how the song begins. The music was composed over 130 years ago by Mykola Lysenko, the founder of the Ukrainian national opera.

All proceeds from the tickets went then, as we promised, to the Regional Coordination Centre Gdańsk Helps Ukraine for the purpose of layettes for small children.

This is how it was during the first charity concert, and today we invite you to another unique event. It will be a truly “Good Concert ” and a unique concert, because it will be a charity concert promoting the debut album of the Olivia Centre Choir “Good Tony”. Dozens of performers from many, very, very different companies from Olivia have been united by a great passion for music and the artists will share this passion with you on December 6th, to… make the world a little better. The goal is noble – to support the construction of the Respite Care Centre, and each of your donations to the fundraiser we have just launched (link to it below) is to help in its implementation.

By donating to the fundraiser, all proceeds from which will support the construction of the Respite Care Center being built in Gdańsk on the initiative of the Hospice Foundation, you can choose a “prize” that will be:

  • a concert ticket,
  • a concert ticket and a CD of the Olivia Choir,
  • CD only.

You can also simply choose no prize, but make a donation and help the Hospice Foundation.

UWAGA! JEDNA WPŁATA = JEDNA NAGRODA

Jeżeli chcesz odebrać dwie nagrody, dokonaj dwóch odrębnych wpłat.

Jeżeli potrzebujesz trzech, dokonaj trzech odrębnych wpłat, itd.

We are collecting gifts for children from Ukraine!

Friends,

We warmly invite you to take part in the collection of new Christmas gifts for children from Ukraine. When the world around us is collapsing, it’s hard to think about Christmas gifts for the youngest.

We want to help the little ones from the war-stricken country experience a joyful Christmas. We still have some time, because traditionally Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 7. So we also have a chance to share what we and our children find under the Christmas tree. We are starting the fundraiser on December 21st!

What do we collect?

Only new: toys, games, stuffed animals, sports equipment, building blocks, puzzles and art supplies designed for children of early school age.

Where do we collect?

Gifts can be placed in white wooden boxes under the Christmas tree on the ground floor in the Olivia Star lobby, from December 21 to January 3.

Until when does the collection last?

Until January 3, 2023 Then, the collected gifts will be donated to schools in Ukraine.

If you want to take part in this noble action, bring your gift to Olivia Star and leave it under the Christmas tree from December 21 to January 3. Tell your children about it! Spread the word about our campaign to your friends and acquaintances so that even more people can share the joy of Christmas!

We can’t wait to put a smile on the little ones’ faces, also thanks to you!

The grand finale of the FIFA tournament in Olivia is behind us! The cup in the hands of Marcin Jach from PwC!

The World Cup is over. The whole football world watched the final of the most spectacular football tournament in the world. Argentina became world champions for the third time in their history (previously 1978, 1986), beating France after extra time and a penalty shootout. There was also no shortage of football emotions in Olivia! In the first FIFA esports tournament, as many as 32 players from 19 companies competed for the title of the best player. 64 matches were played, the tournament lasted 25 days, and the competition took place in 6 arenas: Olivia Garden, Santander Work Cafe, Vidokówka, Conference Centre on the 34th floor of Olivia Star, O4 Coworking, Work&Chill Station. The most goals (13) were scored by Mariusz Pliński from Bayer. The winner of the tournament was Marcin Jach from PwC!

The most exciting duel was definitely the final, which was played on December 16 at O4 Coworking. Marcin Jach from PwC faced off against Radosław Łuczak from Speednet. In the end, the victory, after extra time and a goal in the last seconds of the game, was achieved by Marcin. “Golden Martin” was honored with a cup, he also received a ball signed by R9 Ronaldo himself, one of the the best players in the history of the World Cup. The silver medal will be won by the aforementioned Radosław Łuczak, and the bronze medal will be won by Krzysztof Roszkowski from GFKM, who defeated Paweł Król from Nike in the match for the 3rd place.

A big round of applause goes to all the finalists! The level represented by Olivia’s Residents in FIFA was incredibly high! Each player had his own tactics, habits and idea of the game. All participants were entitled to choose any team. Real Madrid was the most popular, but we also had a few raisins who decided to play Poland.

The following representatives took part in the Tournament: Aspire, Arrow, Bayer, Capgemini, Cisco, GFKM, Laga Company, MOVO AB, Nike, Nordea, Olivia Centre, PwC, Ricoh, Sii, Santander, Speednet, Speeran, Telus, thyssenkrupp. Here’s the full roster:

Stay tuned for the next editions, which will be even more exciting. Who knows, maybe we’ll play Mortal Kombat or the NBA now?
