Let’s talk about metropolis in Pomerania. We are initiating Metropolitan Debates in Olivia

Metropolitan Debates in Olivia are starting already in January. Together with “Dziennik Bałtycki” – the organiser of debates and contents partner of the project –Strefa Metropolitalny Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot association, we will think of how to create a strong metropolis, which serves the residents of our region well. In Olivia Business Centre throughout the entire first half of 2018, the representatives of local governments, colleges, cultural and art institutions, as well as entrepreneurs and politicians will meet to touch upon the most essential subjects for our agglomeration. The first meeting as a part of the “Metropolitan Debates in Olivia” series will be held on 22 of January at 11:00 am . You will be able to follow it via live streaming on “Dziennik Bałtycki” Facebook profile. See the event on Facebook

The theme of the meeting, in which such guests as the marshal of voivodeship, mayors of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, the representatives of government, Pomeranian deputies and senators, as well as the representatives of the world of business and science, are going to participate, is: “Opportunities and needs for creating a metropolis in Pomerania?”. Watch the debate live!

Region’s residents were the first who warmed to the idea of metropolis, which has been discussed for many years. Benefits connected with “being together” more closely have always been something obvious for them (common tickets and implementations concerning collective transport, common solutions concerning the problem of environmental protection, education or planning region’s development…). Local governments, which wanted to cooperate in 2011, set up Gdański Strefa Metropolitalny association. Currently, Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area association consists of 57 local governments (the area covers a total of nearly 5.5 thousand square kilometres; according to the area of counties: 6.7 thousand square kilometres, inhabited by nearly 1.5 million of residents).

The representatives of business, who have been talking about metropolis in the context of Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot and neighbouring cities for a long time, think in a similar way. However, it has been more difficult to convince local politicians throughout all these years. Of course, among them there were declared enthusiasts of the idea of metropolis, but there were also sceptics who claimed that it is easier to communicate to solve certain problems.

However, at the moment Pomeranian metropolis doesn’t have any enshrinement. Without it, joint problem solving is very difficult in practice.

While searching for ideas and concrete solutions for metropolis, together with “Dziennik Bałtycki” and Strefa Metropolitalny Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot association, we are organising the series of debates entitled “We want metropolis in Pomerania” in Olivia Business Centre. Participants of the first debate, which is planned for 22 of January, will sign in Olivia a declaration of need to create a Pomeranian metropolis. We believe that this declaration will become a cornerstone of this project.

In future debates, which are planned for subsequent months, we, together with politicians and region’s residents, will be thinking of how to solve problems connected with certain spheres of life most effectively: transport and collective communication, environmental protection, education and tourism. In each of these areas we can do better and more if we act together.

Current information on the website dedicated to Metropolitan Debates in Olivia

Topics, which will be covered during the meeting on 22 of January:

  • Does the development of metropolis in Poland require special legal acts? If it does, then should the government issue regulations for the act on metropolitan unions passed during the previous parliamentary term, the way it happened in the case of Silesian metropolis, or should it draft a new act?
  • Will the creation of metropolis solve our everyday problems? If it will, then which ones?
  • How to build a new, common quality – united strength of cities – to be able to act more, better and more effectively?
  • Which tasks should future metropolis fulfil?
  • Won’t the hypothetical creation of metropolis threaten the sovereignty of boroughs in the neighbourhood of Gdańsk agglomeration?

You are welcome to join us!

The power of goodness. Meeting with seniors in Olivia.

Nativity play performed by seniors, brain gymnastics, relaxation exercises, and above all, the exchange of knowledge and experience – this Tuesday, 23 January, the first meeting of the “Behind the scenes of Caritas” series will take place at Olivia Business Centre. The guests of honour of this edition of the event will be seniors of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk. The meeting will start at 5.30 p.m. and will last until 19.00.

23 January entrepreneurs, seniors and Caritas supporters will meet in one place. The guest of the first meeting will be Marek Demczuk – photojournalist, cinematographer, collaborator of mines. TVN, who will talk about his experiences in cooperation with Caritas. Then, there will be an opportunity to join the classes that regularly take place in Caritas facilities in Gdańsk, where seniors meet. A few exercises for body and soul: to keep both our muscles and brain in good condition. Later, we can see the fruits of these activities: Nativity play, performed by seniors from the Day Care Home from the Caritas Center. st. Sister Faustina in Rumia. At the end, the participants will be treated to a sweet treat and talk together over tea and the sounds of the guitar. The event will be graced by Photo exhibition entitled “Caritas Seniors”.

The idea of the series of meetings, whose originator and organizer is Caritas of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk, is to increase social awareness that today’s 60- and 70-year-olds are active seniors, people who not only have a lot of experience, but also the desire to share it with the environment and actively participate in public life, including professional life. In order for them to achieve this goal, it is important that they can spend time not only among themselves, but also exchange knowledge with people from other backgrounds, in this case – m.in. with entrepreneurs.

– At regular thematic meetings, such as those in Olivia Business Centre, we want to show you the behind-the-scenes of work at Caritas. During the first meeting, we will talk about the fact that life after 60 does not have to be boring and lonely. More and more older people see new perspectives for themselves, and thus “go out” of home to pursue their own passions and spend time actively. It is important to create as many such opportunities as possible for them and to change our perception and, consequently, the existing social model. We also invite you to the next meetings. We will tell you about our children with disabilities, tell you what is happening in our day-care centres and tell you who a volunteer is – says Marta Szulc, Secretary of the Board of CARITAS of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk.

– Olivia is a place that connects people m.in. by taking initiatives and promoting ideas that are important to each of us. By cooperating with the community of people gathered around Caritas in Pomerania, we want to show that it is worth being active and sensitive in various dimensions of social life. We hope that the meetings with seniors or the next ones about the talents and value of being a volunteer will allow us to get to know each other better and contribute to a greater awareness of the importance of matters related to the need to be close to human affairs. As a partner of the meetings, we invite everyone who wants to see how organizations, such as Caritas, join in helping people on a daily basis – says Monika Bogdanowicz from Olivia Business Centre, responsible for CSR projects.

Such opportunities are provided, among others, by the Caritas Senior Club at the Archdiocese of Gdańsk. It is a place where the elderly can not only meet, talk and establish friendly relations, but also spend time together creatively and actively. And there is no shortage of ideas. Numerous games, theatre classes, cooking together are just some of the forms of activity of seniors belonging to the Club. During the meeting, there will certainly be an opportunity to learn much more about this topic.

TAKE PART IN THE MEETING! WELCOME:)

Caritas seniors in Olivia. A meeting full of good energy

The first meeting of the “Power of Goodness” series is behind us. Absolutely unique, joyful, full of passion and good energy. In Olivia we hosted seniors, residents of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Gdansk.

– “The Power of Goodness” is a project that was born in our minds a long time ago. Through such cyclical events, we want to show the behind-the-scenes of work in Caritas – says Marta Szulc, Secretary of the Board of Caritas in Gdańsk. “In Olivia, we have proven, which I deeply believe, that life after 60 does not have to be boring and lonely. More and more older people see new perspectives for themselves and instead of passively sitting at home, they prefer to pursue their own passions and spend time actively. We must also not forget that seniors have a lot of experience and a desire to share it with others and actively participate in public life. That is why we try to create as many such opportunities for them as possible, and thus break stereotypes –Adds.

“It is a great joy for us to be able to share what we do with the community of entrepreneurs and businessmen working at Olivia Business Centre. I am convinced that the opportunity to meet two such different “worlds” will result in an extraordinary exchange of experiences, observations, knowledge and, above all, cordial relations. Someone gives, and someone just takes… Always, always, when we enter into relationships, we are gifted and we give. Everyone. I’m lucky to have been working with Caritas for years. When I meet seniors, children, employees, volunteers, I am gifted a hundred times – said Marek Demczuk.

Participants of the ” Power of Goodness” could also join the activities that regularly take place in Caritas facilities in Gdańsk, where seniors meet. In Olivia Sky Club, under the supervision of Caritas employees, both the mind and the body were exercised. There was also an artistic part. Seniors from Caritas in Olivia. A meeting full of good energy

The first meeting as part of “The Strength of Kindness” series is already behind us. It was absolutely unique, joyful, full of passion and good energy. In Olivia, we hosted seniors, the charges of Caritas of Gdańsk Archdiocese.

– “The Strength of Kindness” is a project, which arose in our minds a long time ago. By organising such periodic events, we want to show the behind-the-scenes work in Caritas – said Marta Szulc, the Secretary of the Management Board in Caritas in Gdańsk. – I really hope we proved in Olivia that the lives of people who are over 60 don’t have to be boring and lonely. More and more elderly people see new perspectives and instead of sitting inactively at home, they prefer to fulfil their passions and spend time actively. We can’t forget that seniors have great experience and will to share it with others, as well as to actively participate in public life. That is why, we try to create as many opportunities as possible for them and in this way overcome stereotypes – she added.

The special guest during the event was Marek Demczuk, photojournalist and operator, who told us about his experiences while cooperating with Caritas. He emphasised that bonds and established relationships have become and are the most important for him and that after every meeting with seniors he is richer with experience, knowledge and good.

– We need to remember that when we talk about relationships, we don’t talk about one-sidedness. Relationships are never one-sided, and there is no such a situation that only one person benefits from a relationship. Someone gives and someone only takes… Always, but always, when we enter any relationship, we are bestowed and we bestow. Everyone. I am lucky enough to have been cooperating with Caritas for years. When I meet seniors, children, employees and volunteers, I am bestowed hundredfold – said Marek Demczuk.

The participants of “The Strength of Kindness” had an opportunity to take part in activities, which are periodically held in the facilities of Caritas in Gdańsk, where seniors meet. In Olivia Sky Club, participants could train, under the guidance of Caritas employees, both their minds and bodies. There was also an artistic part. Nativity play prepared by seniors from Saint Faustyna Kowalska Day Care Caritas Centre in Rumia was loudly applauded. It must be admitted that actors, apart from their talents, have a great sense of humour and can distance themselves.

Sweet snacks were waiting for the guests home-made croissants with jam and delicious gingerbreads. Participants could take recipes home and try to get closer to culinary talents of seniors who prepared these baked goods. There were also conversations with tea and guitar sounds. The event was accompanied by a photo exhibition entitled “Seniors in Caritas”.

– While cooperating with the environment of people focused around Caritas in Pomerania region, we want to show that it’s worth being active and empathetic in different dimensions of social life. We hope that the meeting with seniors or the future ones concerning talents and the value of being a volunteer will contribute to the fact that people will be more aware of the importance of issues connected with the need to be closer to social issues. As a partner of these meetings, we would like to invite everyone, who want to find out how such organisations as Caritas get engaged in helping people every day. And how we can help as well emphasised Monika Bogdanowicz from Olivia Business Centre.

2nd Metropolitan Debate in Olivia: mobility

The 2nd Metropolitan Debate in Olivia is still ahead of us. Together with “Dziennik Bałtycki” – the organiser of the event and contents partner of the project, Strefa Metropolitalny Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Association, we are discussing on how to build a strong metropolis, which will serve the residents of our region well. In Olivia Business Centre, throughout the entire half of 2018, the representatives of local governments, colleges, cultural and art institutions, entrepreneurs and politicians will be meeting and dealing with the issues, which are the most important for our agglomeration.

The first debate in Olivia Business Centre’s headquarters was held on January 22. The meeting, during which there was a debate between the representatives of the government, members of parliament and local governments (for example mayors of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot), ended with signing an important declaration by the participants. “We, the participants of metropolitan debate organised by the editors of “Dziennik Bałtycki” in Olivia Business Centre, as well as the representatives of communes and districts associated in Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area, support the idea of creating a metropolitan union in the Pomeranian Voivodeship” – this is the first sentence of the declaration. Read more…

Already on March 2 in Olivia, there will be held a conversation about mobility. First of all, the metropolis is a hope for the residents of the whole region for the improvement of transport. We want to commute easier within Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, as well as between the “core” of the metropolis and neighbouring cities and communes. That is why, we will be talking about collective transport, including unified tickets. During the meeting, we will also discuss such issues as the development of Fast City Rail and Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway. Interlocutors will also be looking for modern solutions – in the agenda, there is also a place for the debate on a metropolitan bike. Politicians from local governments and experts will participate in the debate called “Metropolis and mobility”. The meeting will begin on Friday, March 2 at 3:00 pm. You will have a chance to keep track of the event on the Facebook profile of “Dziennik Bałtycki”.

If you want to participate in the 2nd Metropolitan Debate in Olivia, register using the form, which is available on the website of “Dziennik Bałtycki”. Let us know, which issues connected with the metropolitan area are interesting for you. You will receive the confirmation of possibility to participate in the debate electronically. The number of seats is limited. The applications will be handled on a first come, first served basis.

Steer for happiness. A meeting with Marek Kamiński

“Discovering geographical poles, travelling through the desert, crossing the ocean are a fascinating and dangerous path, which made it possible for me to discover the “Pole Method” – the art of discovering yourself and achieving your goals. Don’t be afraid, this is not an academic lecture, I don’t want to persuade you to anything or preach. I would just like to share my experience and encourage you to improve yourself, which is not less fascinating than an expedition to the outermost places in the world. I believe that the method and exercises created by Joanna Heidtman, a psychologist, which were described in the book, will open the doors and will be the first step in your journey into yourself. New doors mean a new path and new opportunities and every journey begins with a first step” –

Marek Kaminski

The strength of synergy and the art of building relations are two keystones of creating Olivia Business Centre’s community. One of our goals is to show that Olivia is a place of development for many people and that it is always the bilateral exchange of ideas and experiences – on the part of participants of our meeting and on the part of invited experts.

The guest of “Steer for happiness. The “Pole Method” in life and business” event, which was held in Olivia Sky Club, was recently Marek Kamiński; a charismatic leader, traveller, philosopher and an outstanding personality in the world of sport and business, who in July 2017 chose Olivia as his foundation’s headquarters. In the conversation held by Monika Bogdanowicz (Olivia Business Centre), Marek Kamiński shared his experience gathered during numerous expeditions and trips, which took him to the outermost places in the world. He talked, for example, about the need and possibility to consciously create the feeling of happiness both in professional and personal life.

You can create such a feeling, for example, by consistent application of simple techniques of meditation, inner conversation with yourself and so-called notes of thoughts – which should be prepared every day in the morning, just after waking up. He presented, on his own example, the ways of fulfilling new plans and goals. He made people in Olivia familiar with his latest project called ” Life plan” and “No Trace Expedition” trip. The latter is an innovative project, which promotes the idea of conscious travelling, also into yourself, without leaving traces in natural environment. Its implementation is planned for March-June 2018. The route – 20 thousand kilometres – will run through Kaliningrad, Belarus, Russia, Siberia, South Korea, as far as to Japan. The aim of the expedition is, among other things, to show that you can travel by an electric car long and difficult distances and at the same time influence the surrounding world in a positive way, without leaving the traces of human presence. This idea connects with an innovative “Leave Trail” approach, behind which there lies leaving trails, but not in the natural world – in people’s minds.

During the event, there were also presented the elements of development programmes implemented by Marek Kamiński Foundation, which support different social and professional groups, including managers and companies’ management staffs. Of course, authorial ” Pole Method” by Kamiński was among them. It concentrates on achieving goals, supporting development and preventing motivation loss. It consists of 10 steps and leads, among other things, to getting to know your own self. It is based on dreams because they are the key to determining your own Pole. The “Pole Method” was described in a book entitled ” Discover that you carry the pole within you” and it uses, for example, visualisation and physical exercises.

It is successfully used during Camps for the Poles Conquerors organised by Marek Kamiński Foundation. However, it can be used at every level of our lives and involve both personal and professional goals. It becomes a multidimensional and fascinating journey, which aim is to give our lives a unique value. Soft skills, which can be acquired using this method, become useful in our everyday life, at its every stage.

People with disabilities in the work environment. Passion. Knowledge. Strength

“The Do forceBroci”. Caritas meetings in Olivia.

On Tuesday afternoon, 27 February, in Olivia Sky Club, it was possible to meet with people with disabilities, charges of Caritas in Gdańsk and employees – therapists. This is the second in a series of events, under the telling slogan, “The Power of Goodness”, which was initiated and organized by Caritas of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk. Olivia Business Centre is open to cooperation with many communities, tries to engage in projects aimed at integrating people, exchanging ideas, promoting pro-social attitudes, supporting initiatives dedicated to m.in. activation, hence the m.in. cooperation with Caritas in Gdańsk.

The special guest of the meeting was Paweł Jaworski – the owner of the “MORPAK” company, the founder of the “Stara Papiernia” Association. The entrepreneur employs people with disabilities, so he shared his experiences from everyday cooperation and the emotions that accompany it. He repeatedly emphasized that it is enough to skillfully use the knowledge and abilities of a disabled person to gain an expert in their field. On the other hand, Marta Gosłowska-Mironowicz from the Integralia Foundation, Employment agency with several years of experience in the professional activation of people with disabilities gave the audience specific tips on how to employ a disabled person.

Beata Kozłowska, a therapist from the University of Warsaw, talked about the methods of work in the Occupational Therapy Workshop (WTZ), and in particular about “art therapy”. Caritas Rehabilitation Center st. Stanislaw Kostka. In Olivia, we could see for ourselves how real works of art are created (they could be seen and bought at stands prepared by employees, volunteers and charges of Caritas). It was also possible to work independently in a saddlery or ceramics workshop and learn the details of the so-called The “Cracow Method”, used in teaching reading at the Rehabilitation-Educational-Educational Center in Trąbki Wielkie.

There was also an artistic part. m.in revealed his talents to us. Łukasz Kalisz – actor, dancer, protégé of WTZ in Gdynia. The pupils of WTZ also performed in genre scenes, they also presented four workshop stations at which they work every day – a weaving, saddlery, ceramics and wickerwork workshop. The event was graced by a photo exhibition – “Disabled Caritas”.

The meeting ended with refreshments and conversations.

“Our pupils were very impressed by the place where the meeting took place. Admiration for the architecture and décor was mixed with fear. “I’ve never been on the 12th floor in a glass room,” I was told. I could see the delight in their eyes as they approached the window-wall with a little trepidation and admired the beautiful views. It was a time that showed the enormous strength of daboutbra, and the friendliness of the employees of Olivia Business Centre makes us feel at home there. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Monika Bogdanowicz and Katarzyna Halicka from Olivia for the great attention and care that we receive from you. – said Marta Szulc, Secretary of the Board of CARITAS of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk.

WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE SEA OF INSPIRATION:)

Enabling ability in working environment. Passion. Knowledge. Strength

“The Strength of Kindness”. Caritas meetings at Olivia.

In the Tuesday afternoon, February 27, in Olivia Sky Club you could meet disabled persons, the charges of Caritas in Gdańsk, as well as organization’s employees – therapists. It was the second event as part of “The Strength of Kindness” series. Even the name itself tells us a lot. The initiator and organiser of the event is Caritas of Gdańsk Archdiocese. Olivia Business Centre is open to the cooperation with many environments and tries to get engaged in projects, which aim to integrate people, exchange ideas, promote pro-social attitudes, support initiatives dedicated, for example, to vocational activation, that is why it cooperates with Caritas in Gdańsk.

The special guest of the event was Paweł Jaworski – the owner of “MORPAK” company, the founder of “Stara Papiernia” Association. This entrepreneur employs disabled persons, that is why he shared his experiences connected with everyday cooperation and emotions, which accompany it. He emphasised many times that it is enough to skilfully use the knowledge and skills of a disabled person to make him/her an expert in a certain field. Marta Gosłowska-Mironowicz from Integralia foundation, a job-matching specialist with many years of experience in vocational activation of disabled persons, gave listeners specific guidelines concerning how to employ a disabled person.

Beata Kozłowska, a therapist from Stanisław Kostka Caritas Rehabilitation Centre talked about working methods in the Occupational Therapy Workshop, especially about “art therapy”. In Olivia, we could find out how real works of art are created (you had the opportunity to see and buy them at the stands prepared by the employees, volunteers and charges of Caritas). You could also work in saddling or ceramic workshop and get to know the details of a so called “Cracow Method”, which is used while teaching how to read in Rehabilitation and Educational Centre in Trąbki Wielkie.

There was also an artistic part. Among persons, who showed us their talents, there was Łukasz Kalisz – an actor, a dancer and the charge of the Occupational Therapy Workshop in Gdynia. What is more, the charges of the Occupational Therapy Workshop performed acting scenes, presented four workshop stands, where they work every day – weaving, saddling, ceramic and wicker. The event was enhanced by photo exhibition – “Disabled persons of Caritas”.

At the end of the meeting there were snacks and conversations.

– Our charges were very impressed by the place, in which the meeting was held. Admiration connected with architecture and design was mixed with fear. “I have never been on the 12th floor in a glass room”, I heard such words. I saw awe in their eyes, when they were approaching a window-wall with slight anxiety and were admiring beautiful views. It was time, which showed a great strength of good and kindness of Olivia Business Centre employees makes us feel there like home.
