Olivia Business Centre supports academic sports

The signing of the agreement with AZS University of Gdańsk officially opens the calendar of league games in the beginning season of the women’s basketball and futsal leagues. Olivia Business Centre has become the Main Partner of university teams for another season in a row.

” Thank you for the agreement. We hope that cooperation with Olivia Business Centre will help both prestigious teams.” –Stressed Ph.D. Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała, Associate Professor, Rector of the University of Gdańsk.

The plans are ambitious. The first league basketball players assume promotion to the play-off phase. According to coach Włodzimierz Augustynowicz, the fifth place in last year’s competition allows us to believe that the goal is within reach. The pillars of the team this season are called to the Polish national team Jastina Kosalewicz, Angelika Kuras, Karolina Formella, Paulina Kuras.

Futsal players, on the other hand, will be cheered on by fans in the Ekstraklasa. A titled team aims high. The goal that seems within the team’s reach is the first “6”.

“After the main round, the league is divided into two groups fighting for Championship and Retention. The futsal team has undergone quite a metamorphosis, there are some new players who will be gaining league experience” – Jacek Burglin explains the situation in the team.

The line-up includes Wojciech Pawicki, Mikołaj Kreft and Mateusz Cyman.

The first match of the season in front of their home crowd will be played on October 1, at 8.00 p.m. in the AWFiS Hall at Czyżewskiego Street in Gdańsk.

Admission for fans will be free of charge.

International Crunch in Olivia Business Centre

On the 34th floor of the Star building in Olivia Business Centre, on 13 September, eminent urban planners gathered to open an international discussion on the spatial development programme. They analysed the possibilities of using natural water in the operation of the mill and forge in Oliwa, taking into account climate change, terrain and hydrological conditions.

Among the speakers were m.in. Prof. Piotr Lorens from the Gdańsk University of Technology, prof. Pei-Te Chiueh from the National Taiwan University, Dr Alessandro Melis from the University of Portsmouth, Dr Joanna Bach-Głowińska from the Gdańsk University of Technology and Claire Coulter from the University of Portsmouth.

The Crunch project is of significant importance for the city, experts emphasized. The presentations and research allowed us to draw conclusions that constitute a new quality for this part of Gdańsk. The aim of the workshop was to develop preliminary concepts for a coherent, comprehensive development of the area of the Water Forge and the XIII Mill in accordance with the principles of the Nexus Wind Farm.

– OBC is involved in many events. International meetings are of particular interest to us, as we believe that the variety of ideas that arise during such meetings brings benefits to everyone – both for us and for our neighbourhood and the whole city, and is supported by the experience of guests gained all over the world. Today’s practical workshops, the subject of which was set here in Oliwa, passed in a good, creative atmosphere, and the participants showed their creativity. What is also worth emphasizing is the close and successful cooperation with the Gdańsk University of Technology. – translated by Małgorzata Gwozdz, Director of personnel in Olivia Business Centre.

The two-day seminars and workshops as part of FWE Nexus Accelarates Innovation were attended by urban planners from the United States, Sweden, Taiwan, Great Britain and Polish. The conference was organized by the Laboratory of Urban Initiatives.

Music comes first in our home

“Music comes first in our home.”
Grzegorz Wieczorek (Academy of Music in Gdańsk) invites you to the autumn family Camerata!

When the temperature outside shows a steady downward trend, the leaves on the trees begin to turn from green to yellow and red as we put on warmer and warmer clothes for our daily walk around the neighborhood, a sign that autumn has arrived. With the first days of it, we get ready for new impressions and emotions as well as meetings with friends. We want everything positive to accompany us during the events that will fill our autumn calendars.

We would like to invite you to participate in the next, full of colours and warmth, but already autumn concert in the series Olivia Camerata. Once again, we will host you at Olivia Star, on Saturday, October 13 at 16.00.

Let’s add that it will be the 3rd. concert of this year’s “Four Seasons” series. After the extremely successful performance of Magdalena Molendowska in June, which gathered an audience of nearly 200 people, we invite you to the next edition of this unique musical event.

Ahead of us, during the autumn Camerata, will be the performance of the extremely musical family of Mr. and Mrs. Wieczorek , consisting of: a musical married couple, pianist Alicja Wieczorek, clarinetist Grzegorz Wieczorek , together with their daughter Basia (oboe) and son Szymon (clarinet). The concert will also feature soprano Bogna Forkiewicz and her daughter Blanka Błażejowska (violin, vocals).

In the Olivia Star lobby, before and after the concert, you will also be able to admire the artworks of Jan Błażejowski and Szymon Wieczorek.

We will try to say goodbye to summer in a pleasant mood and welcome autumn, golden autumn shimmering with various musical colours.

We invite you to read the interview with Prof. Grzegorz Wieczorek, which will introduce us to the artistic passions and favorite activities of each member of the family and announce the program of our concert.

Monika Bogdanowicz (Olivia Business Centre): How did you spend your summer holidays? Was it possible to rest, or was it also a time of intensive work and other activities?

Prof. Grzegorz Wieczorek:* The holidays were an opportunity for us to relax together. We visited Andalusia (Malaga, Granada, Seville), where this time it was not hotter than in Poland (laughs). In addition, each of our family members had the opportunity to… Work.

Together with my wife, we started the summer holidays with the VI Summer Clarinet Workshops, which we conducted together with Jan Jakub Bokun and Dawid Głowacki at the Music School Complex in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz. At the same time, our son took part in the International Youth Music Workshops in Szczecin. At the end of the summer holidays, I played a concert and conducted classes during the Master Courses at the Palace in Rybna. At that time, my wife was an accompaniment at the summer workshops of wind instruments called Musical Torture, which took place in Wadowice, and one of the participants was our daughter.

M.B.: What place does music have in your family’s life?

G.W.: Music in our house is definitely in the first place. Playing an instrument cannot be done occasionally, it is a daily job to which we are all subject. Even the children, despite the fact that they are still students, already have their musical commitments, which condition our family plans.

Basia and Szymon study at the Secondary Music School of the first and second degree. F. Nowowiejski in Gdansk. Basia is a student of class VI (he plays the oboe) and Szymon XI (plays the clarinet), in two years he will be taking his final exams. They have already won awards and distinctions in competitions, but I think that the most important thing at their stage of education is perseverance and improvement of their skills, and awards are only a “by-product” and should not become the goal of their actions.

M.B.: Tell us about your family and introduce the performers we will see at the next autumn Camerata.

G.W.: Szymon is interested in composition, he particularly likes to write for large symphonic ensembles, recently he has been saying more and more often that he would like to study conducting, but he is also passionate about philosophy, literature and painting. He also paints himself, and there will be an opportunity to see some of his works during the concert. Basia loves sports, especially acrobatics, she rides horses and swims very well.

M.B.: But music is not the only art you deal with?

G.W.: When we have moments of free time, we like to go outdoors, to the seaside or to Kashubia. We like to get to know new places and try local delicacies.

M.B.: The third edition of this year’s Olivia Camerata series – Four Seasons: Autumn – is ahead of us. What songs will we hear during the concert in the lobby of Olivia Star?

G.W.: During the concert we will hear, among others: Vocal music, pieces for violin, oboe and clarinet performed by professional musicians, but also children who are still in education, so we also invite younger audiences to listen to how their peers play after several years of study. We will hear, m.in, such well-known songs as “You Remember It Was Autumn“, Franz Schubert’s “The Shepherd on the Rock”, “The Trout”, “Margaret at the Spinning Wheel”, excerpts from the Oboe Concerto in D major part I. II by Joseph Haydn or Malcolm Arnold’s ” Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano” and works by Oskar Rieding “Concertino in D major op. 25” and Igor Stravinsky’s “Three”. I’m glad that we’re going to perform in such an interesting place for Olivia’s community. I especially invite whole families to our concert. It’s a special moment. It’s time to be with your loved ones and enjoy the contact with music and the beauty that comes from it.

M.B.: What are your ways of passing on your passion to the next generations?

G.W.: We are teachers of the Music School Complex in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz, as well as the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. We work a lot, but we enjoy it and we have never wanted to live differently, we hope that our pupils and students feel it.

M.B.: Thank you for the interview.

G.W.: I cordially invite you to the concert and see you in Olivia!

People first

Practice and exchange of experience is the first step on the way to the broadly understood integration of Human Resources specialists. Małgorzata Gwozdz, HR Director at Olivia Business Centre, co-originator of the HR Club, talks about the change in the role of HR, the employee’s market, a modern approach to competences and creative meetings in the HR Business Partner Club.

Where did the idea come from?

The idea behind the creation of the Club is the actual role of HR. I am concerned to see reports that clearly show the change that Human Resource areas are making.

What do Human Resources departments do?

Human Resources (HR) has degraded slightly, relegating to recruitment and administration. They are no longer strategic, which is why the idea of the HRBP Club is to strengthen competences and launch joint thinking on how to shape the labour market. Personally, I think that the employee era is about too many inflated benefits and focusing only on rewards. There is less thinking about what is good for both the employee and the company in the long run.

We are dealing with an employee’s market.

The era of the employee will come to an end. After all, HR is responsible for many other processes, such as shaping these people and their development paths. I hope that integration around the Club, exchange of practices, and mutual learning should contribute to the creation of an opinion-forming environment.

Conclusions from the autopsy?

My role is to integrate the entire environment in Olivia Business Centre. Hence the idea to go out with the idea of the Club to the companies that reside with us. I am glad because, on the other hand, we have managed to expand the scale of the initiative. At the moment, we have more than 60 people on the list of participants, most of whom come to us from outside.

What do the meetings look like in practice?

The Club’s meeting takes place in a resident company. This time we will host Agata Witczak, a successful HR specialist, who will present her original method created for Thomson Reuters. He will explain how to deal with feedback to an employee and discuss a modern approach to competency assessment.

A strong debut of the HRBP Club?

The first little meeting took place in June. We hosted Perry Timms, a top HR influencer from the UK, who talked about his vision for HR development. In the background of the Club, there is a commercial program that we do together with consulting companies. In response to the needs of the industry, they create the opportunity to purchase the “HR Transformation” course, which is to improve competences and prepare for market challenges. The Club itself is not commercial, I really hope that it will become opinion-forming for the community and thanks to it good practices or integration will be created, which is conducive to development.

The Game of Generations in Olivia. About GFKM Leadership Conference

On Friday, 28 September, the inaugural conference of the GFKM Leadership Conference series was held at Olivia Business Centre, the leading theme of which was “The Game of Generations” – i.e. intergenerational management. The aim of the conference was to develop common answers to questions about cooperation between different generations in the company, ways of effective leadership and management in generationally diverse teams, as well as an attempt to recognize how this topic will evolve in the future.

The conference was opened by the President of GFKM, Andrzej Popadiuk, and chaired by Piotr Świąc. He was the first to perform Prof. Piotr Płoszajski from the Warsaw School of Economics, who referred to intergenerational communication in the context of the avalanche of technological and civilizational changes. Next, Anna Dziarkowska-Stępniak, HR Director at ENERGA-Obrót S.A., presented the concept of the Leadership Performance Pipeline, i.e. “Results-oriented leadership”, successfully implemented in the company she represents. The message of the speech of the third speaker, Tomasz Owczarek from GFKM, was the motto “healthy leadership connects generations”. After the lunch break, Cameron Beazley, an expert in the field of deep learning and advanced statistical analysis methods, presented the results of research describing 30 specially selected personality traits that distinguish good leaders and the correlation of these traits with the effectiveness of leaders. Next, the conclusions of GFKM’s original research “Competences of the Manager of the Future” were presented by Tomasz Harackiewicz, GFKM consultant. The last of the presenters was a special guest of the conference, Prof. Eric Cornuel, Director General of EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development), who took up the topic of “Technology, Business Schools and Society”.

At the end of the conference, Andrzej Popadiuk led a panel with practitioners of intergenerational management: Konrad Lipski – experienced HR director and promoter of the Leadership Performance Pipeline, Anna Macnar – CEO at HRM Institute, Marta Moksa – Managing Director of O4 coworking in Olivia Business Centre and Kamil Sokolowski – top manager in the area of marketing and sales, expert in the field of young generations.

At this point, it is worth quoting the statement of the director of O4, Marta Moxa, summarizing the debate: “From my point of view, this closing discussion was extremely interesting. Without repeating trivial clichés about generational differences, without complaining about young people, without stereotypical thinking. For me, the most important takeaway from our discussion about managing age-diverse teams is that most of the changes are generally due to the development of managerial thought or the expansion of knowledge about human motivation rather than the fanciful needs of “millennials”. Equally valuable was the conversation about guidelines for effective collaboration, in which all discussants agreed that the key to success is to be aware of the goals of everyone in the team and address the tasks accordingly. That’s it and that’s it. No one is “the bad guy” in this story. Everyone has their own interests – and these can be reconciled!”

Małgorzata Gwozdz, Director of Corporate Affairs, commented on the conference in an interesting way. personnel in Olivia Business Centre: “In the discussion about the generation gap, I think it’s important to bridge these boundaries by understanding that in every community – small as a family and as big as a company – each member brings something interesting to the table. We would like the younger generations not to repeat our mistakes from the past and we pay attention to this instead of recognizing what interesting ideas and opinions they bring. We encourage them to make the decisions that we would make, rather than supporting them in making decisions that are consistent with their beliefs. What we know, e.g. business models, as stated by Prof. Płoszajski, they are leaving and must be replaced by new ones, created by generations entering the market. Let’s foster the exchange of views and promote their meetings – just like we do in Olivia”

EPAM Systems is growing in Olivia Business Centre

The American concern EPAM Systems is developing dynamically in Olivia Business Centre. The company, which has been present in Olivia since 2014, has signed another lease agreement for office space in the Gdańsk business center. It will occupy over 10,000 sqm, including almost 8,000 sqm in the newly built Olivia Prime.

EPAM Systems – a global leader in the IT industry and the largest provider of modern software development services in Central and Eastern Europe – has decided to extend the lease agreement for offices in the Olivia Four building and to sign a new lease agreement for office space – this time in Olivia Prime.

– At EPAM Systems, we believe that technology defines success. We employ specialists who are looking for IT solutions that change business every day. We have been in Gdańsk for 4 years. The dynamics of our company’s development in this city is impressive. We are constantly hiring new people. They are mainly engineers, programmers, business analysts, team leaders. Hence, the need for more space. We are very happy that Olivia is able to meet our requirements in this area. We believe that Prime will fit perfectly into the pace of change taking place in EPAM Systems – says Michał Krzepkowski, Senior Administrative Manager.

Olivia Prime consists of two interconnected buildings. The first part of the office building – core A with an area of 35 000 sq. m. It will be put into operation later this year. Olivia Prime B (core B) with an area of 25,000 sq m, a year later. As a result of the merger, tenants will have almost 4000 sq. m at their disposal. on one floor.

What distinguishes Olivia Prime is the loggias located on each floor, allowing you to go outside without leaving the office, and on the roofs there are large terraces for employees, which will be filled with greenery. It will be the first such building in Poland. Everything is designed to serve one purpose: to ensure the highest possible employee satisfaction. This is to be achieved through the idea of close contact with nature, living vegetation and natural materials, which guided us in the design of the building. – says Maciej Kotarski, Director of the Leasing Department at Olivia Business Centre – A canteen with an area of over 700 m2, accessible from the inside and outside of the building, with a spacious terrace on the 1st floor, will also be a convenience for employees. Floor– adds Maciej Kotarski.

Olivia is also a great place for fast-growing companies. “Due to the scale of the project, Olivia allows tenants to expand without any problems, both within one building and the entire centre. A perfect example of this is the dynamically growing EPAM Systems. The company first occupied two floors in Olivia Four, and now it is opening a new, two-storey office in Olivia Prime. Subsequently, EPAM Systems will develop on parallel floors in core B of the same building – says Jakub Jastrzębski, Senior Associate at Olivia Business Centre.

According to the developer’s assumptions, Olivia Business Centre is much more than just buildings. The company makes every effort to integrate and activate tenants in a non-standard way and to make their presence in Olivia more attractive. Of course, it takes advantage of its attractive location.

Olivia Business Centre is much more than buildings – there are plenty of amenities, and the developer is constantly creating new ones to integrate and activate tenants in a non-standard way – also through sports, including sailing. – One of the integration elements promoted in Olivia is yachting. Along with the office space, we have made available to EPAM Systems a racing yacht as part of the Business Sailing League, in which, of course, the crew of Olivia Business Centre also competes – adds Maciej Kotarski, Director of the Leasing Department at Olivia Business Centre. – Sailing together brings teams together and builds the employer’s brand fantastically. We race on identical Delfia 24 vessels – it is a demanding yacht, and we compete fiercely with each other, but always fair play. Many people from EPAM Systems, from different cities and even countries where EPAM branches are located, have expressed their willingness to swim in the regatta.
