What will be the future of electric vehicles? Energa invites young people to take part in the competition

Will electric vehicles revolutionize life in Polish municipalities by 2030? If so, how? How will this affect behavioural change, the environment and the power system? These questions are addressed to high school students with an electrical and energy profile in the nationwide competition “Energy of the Young” organized by Energa SA, of which Olivia Business Centre is a partner. Attractive prizes await the authors of the most interesting ideas and their schools.

“Energy of the Young” – this is the sixth edition of the nationwide competition (previously organized under the slogan “Energy of the Future”). This time, the organizer – Energa SA – invites students to tackle the topic “E-mobility in my municipality. Vision of the year 2030”. The deadline for submissions is 15 March 2017. through the energiamlodych.pl website.

The competition is open to teams of three students under the supervision of a teacher. Each school can submit any number of teams, provided that one teacher will supervise only one team.

“We are convinced that the direct reference of the subject matter of the competition to the place with which young people are connected by family (or go to school) and treat as their little homeland will encourage them to use creatively and deepen the knowledge gained during the lessons. We had evidence of this during last year’s edition, in which students presented ideas directly related to the buildings in which they study. Participation in the work on the competition project is also a great opportunity to use creativity and strengthen the ability to work in a team – qualities highly valued on the labour market – says Michał Lemański, Director of the Marketing Department at Energa SA.

The authors of the five highest-rated papers will be invited to the finals, which will take place on 21 April 2017 in Gdańsk. The finalists will present their ideas and answer questions from the judges and competing teams. The jury will assess the substantive value of the presentation and its form. The three best teams and their supervisors will receive in-kind prizes, and the schools they represent will win cash prizes. The rules of the competition are available on the website.

Prizes for the finalists of the “Energy of the Young” competition:

  • for occupation 1. places – laptops for each team member and tutor and a cash prize of PLN 12,000 for the purchase of teaching aids for students for the school represented by the winning team
  • for capture 2. places – respectively – in-kind prizes in the form of tablets and a cash prize of PLN 8,000
  • for capture 3. places – respectively – in-kind prizes in the form of smartphones and a cash prize of PLN 5,000.

The Jury will also award the Special Prize to the Professor Małgorzata Milewska-Stawiany for the utmost care for the linguistic correctness of the project and presentation. These will be e-book readers.

There is also an additional attraction in the competition. In addition to the five teams qualified for the finals, five teams will be selected – authors of highly rated works that did not make it to the finals.

We will invite these teams to the final game – as an audience, as well as an educational trip to a hydroelectric power plant and a wind farm. We believe that gaining knowledge through experience is very valuable – it allows you to better understand and remember the content read in textbooks. Participation in the tour will be a great opportunity to take a close look at the latest technologies used in the energy sector – says Rafał Hyrzyński, Director of the Strategy and Strategic Asset Management Department at Energa SA.

The “Energy of the Young” competition is one of the initiatives carried out by the Energa Group as part of the “ENERGA Education” programme, the main objective of which is to popularise knowledge about electricity and shape pro-ecological attitudes.
