Koningsdag, or King’s Day from Goyello!

Every year, on April 27, the Netherlands celebrates Koningsdag, or King’s Day. It is famous for its fairs, colourful trade stands, parades and festivals… On this day, buildings are decorated with flags, and the color is orange. The atmosphere of King’s Day, as every year, is presented in Olivia Business Centre by our Resident – Goyello. Goyello is an international IT company thatcelebrates the birthday of King Willem-Alexander every year in the Netherlands. In Olivia from the morning of April 27 you can meet beautiful hostesses with tulips:)

About King’s Day

King’s Day is a public holiday. On this day, parades and festivities are held all over the Netherlands. The streets of all cities and towns become colorful, joyful and singing. Everywhere there is a carnival, carefree atmosphere. In many places, the celebration of King’s Day begins the evening of the previous day. Open-air concerts are held on the streets, in parks and squares, and the most popular drink, next to beer, is the orange liqueur, the so-called “liqueur”. oranjebitteleje. Many locals wear orange (orange is the color of the current monarchs, and is therefore considered the national color of the Netherlands).

In addition, during King’s Day, it is possible to trade without a permit and without the need to pay taxes. The free spaces are filled with stalls, stalls and booths with a lot of products: most often with clothing, household items, homemade preserves and baked goods. Obligatory in orange. The youngest also participate in street trading, selling toys they no longer need. Such a market, also called a blanket market. It’s Kleedjesmark in Dutch.

One of the main elements of the celebration of this day is also the visit of the ruler to one of the Dutch cities. The celebration of King’s Day is celebrated not only by the Dutch, but also by foreigners, who visit the Netherlands in large numbers on this day.

Our Residents, Bayer, Amazon and PwC are the most desirable employers in 2017!

Olivia residents, Bayer and Amazon are the most desirable employers in 2017, PwC Poland with silver in the Advisory and Consulting category!

Antal has presented the results of the eighth edition of the “Most Desirable Employers” survey according to managers and specialists. It was attended by 4102 respondents from all over Polish, representatives of middle and senior staff. The respondents represented 16 voivodships and 9 professional disciplines, m.in. IT, HR, Logistics, Law, Finance and Accounting.

Our Bayer and Amazon Residents were recognized by the respondents as the best in their categories. Bayer became number one in the “Pharmaceutical Companies” category, while Amazon became number one in the “Internet, New Media, E-commerce” category. PWC Polska stood on the podium in the “Advisory and Consulting” category:)

WE ARE PROUD AND CONGRATULATE!

Since 2012, Bayer has had its financial and accounting centre in Olivia. Bayer Service Center Gdańsk serves the company’s branches from more than 20 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, m.in. from Germany, Russia, the Scandinavian and Balkan countries. In addition to accounting, teams of specialists from the Gdańsk SGC also deal with project management, graphic design and support in the area of transparency. In 2014, Amazon opened its Technology Development Center in Olivia. Specialized teams create innovative solutions for products and services that are implemented all over the world. More than 450 R&D employees are working on technologies such as the virtual voice assistant Alexa, among other things. In January 2015, Olivia Business Centre started operating a competence centre belonging to the so-called “Slovak S.A. The “Big Four” (along with Deloitte, Ernst & Young and KPMG), the international consulting firm PwC. He provides advisory services mainly to clients from the financial sector of Western Europe and the United States. We would like to remind you that PwC took first place in two prestigious rankings, the results of which were announced on 16 April. In the Ranking of Tax Firms and Advisors of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, the highest position was awarded to PwC in the category “The Largest Tax Advisory Firm 2017”, and in the Ranking of Auditors of “Rzeczpospolita” and “Gazeta Giełdy Parkiet” in the category “The Best Audit Firm in Poland 2017”.

Do you want to know more about the study?:)

According to the respondents, in 2017 the key elements in choosing an employer were size and prestige (59% of responses) as well as management style and organizational culture of the company (51%). Only in third place was the amount of remuneration. Employees are increasingly aware of the variety of factors that predict higher standards and the quality of work itself. Although the uniqueness of the company is still at the top of the list, there is an increase in the relevance of all the survey criteria. This also applies to the basic elements of a job offer: salary or benefits. In practice, this means that employers who try to build their advantage, e.g. by offering unusually high salaries, at the expense of a bad atmosphere at work or a lack of work-life balance, will not be attractive in the eyes of employees. Conversely, an excellent reputation for a company will not tempt employees if the reputation does not go hand in hand with favorable working conditions.

Employers are becoming more and more aware of the importance of these elements, which is why it is a growing trend on the market to conduct an annual satisfaction and engagement survey, and in larger organizations with thousands of employees, to survey the pulse even once a quarter, in a selected group of employees. According to research conducted by Antal in this area, employee satisfaction affects their engagement, which in turn translates directly into customer satisfaction and loyalty. The location criterion, as in the previous year, is at the end, because in the era of remote work, when the main determinant is the result and efficiency achieved, the place of work in the physical sense is not a key factor for candidates when looking for a job. Whether an employee feels like a partner in building the business of the company in which he or she is employed will depend to a large extent on the way managers manage and their competences.

Sii engineers have adopted pumas in the Gdańsk Zoo!

Our Resident, Sii – a leader in IT and industrial engineering in Poland – adopted pumas from the Gdańsk Zoological Garden:) This is an idea that was born on the initiative of the employees of the Digital Competency Center, which implements IT projects for Sii’s international client – PUMA. It is a world-renowned sports brand, providing the most innovative products for the fastest riders in the world. Since June, the company has become the official caretaker of two pumas – Orlando and Columbia!

Why did the IT company decide to cooperate with the zoo? Joanna Murawska , Junior Java Developer at Sii, the originator of the adoption of cougars, sums up the innovative project – In this way, we decided to show that for us, cooperation with PUMA is more than just standard “work from-to” and coding. We are proud that we create such a close-knit team, carry out advanced and developmental projects for a prestigious client, with whom we strongly identify, and we can help together. It will be a great pleasure for us to look after the pumas in the zoo and take care of them – this is another area for self-fulfilment and integration for us.

The Sii project team, which is the initiator of animal adoption, is made up of 50 Sii engineers from Gdańsk and Lublin, who use various technologies in their work – from Java, through .NET, to SharePoint and Microsoft Business Intelligence technologies. Most of them are involved in a flagship technology project for PUMA called Phoenix, which concerns the construction of a product lifecycle management system. The solution supports users in the process of ordering the tools needed for shoe production, as well as allows them to track the associated investments and depreciation. With the new system, developers, designers, and product managers will be able to work on ideas from the initial concept phase through the prototype to the approved final product. The project is based on technologies such as JAVA EE, Vaadin, EJB, Hibernate, IBM DB2.

The idea of adopting pumas is a combination of the desire to help, the impulse of the heart and the commitment of our engineers to the project for our partner – says Grzegorz Brzostowski, Business Unit Media & Services Director at Sii, who is directly responsible for the long-term cooperation with the client PUMA, based in Herzogenaurach, Germany. – The Puma team from Sii is very integrated and strongly identifies with the project and the client itself. We decided to support their activities, which are in line with Sii’s CSR policy and are of particular importance to them. The decision to take care of cougars is a great combination of all these goals, which are related to both corporate social responsibility and employee satisfaction. The most important thing is the fact that, as a result, we jointly improve animal welfare and support an institution that deals with the protection of endangered species – Brzostowski explains.

Michał Targowski, director of the Gdańsk Zoological Garden, says – I’m very glad that Sii’s programmers decided to combine their work with the adoption of cougars. We are pleased that the offer of support for our wards is becoming more and more popular, both among companies and individuals. So far, lions, baby pandas, seals, lynxes, wildcats, hippos, zebras, kangaroos, donkeys, crocodiles, ararauns and black swans have been taken care of. The offer of sponsorship for the charges of the Gdańsk Zoo has been available for less than a year and during this time there have been a dozen or so people willing to support the animals. There are still more than 50 species of animals on offer, waiting for their sponsors. Our Orlando and Columbia pumas have also recently found their caretaker. Thanks to the support, our pupils receive toys, additional snacks and new paddock equipment.”

“Columbia and Orlando, cougars adopted by Sii, are a very compatible couple ,” says Anna Gembiak, carnivore keeper at the Gdańsk Zoo. – Pumas are also called mountain lions and live for about 20 years. They inhabit the Americas: from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast, and from Argentina and Chile to Alaska. Males are much larger than females, their body weight can reach up to 120 kg. Our pumas spend their time lying next to each other and basking in the sun. They are gluttons. Sometimes we even have to curb their appetites by limiting the amount of food they eat. The daily portion of meat for a male is about 1.5 kg, and for a female 1 kg. Thanks to the sponsorship, the pumas will receive additional delicacies – emphasizes Gembiak.

EXCELLENT IDEA AND I HOPE THERE ARE MORE LIKE THIS:)

At the end of the day, at 5:00 p.m., we invite you to a film screening. We will watch “The Wedding in Sorrento” directed by Susanne Bier in the Jupiter room in the O4 coworking space (Olivia Four). Gutek Film cooperates with us here!

And a few words about our film screening:)

“Wedding in Sorrento” is a romantic comedy by Academy Award winner Susanne Bier starring Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm. It’s an incorrigibly optimistic story about the fact that sometimes everything starts when we think it’s all over. “The Wedding in Sorrento” is genre cinema in its purest form, like “Mamma Mia!”, but with a brilliant script, as the critics wrote. The result is a bravura story with well-drawn characters, full of spicy dialogues and humour.

The film tells the story of two very different families who arrive at a beautiful villa located in a citrus orchard by the sea. The occasion for the meeting is a wedding, during which nothing goes according to plan, and at the same time everything leads to a perverse and joyful finale.

“The Wedding in Sorrento”, which acts as a warming and joy-filling balm, immediately after its release in European cinemas became the biggest box office hit in the career of the director of the Oscar-winning “In a Better World” and “Just After the Wedding”.

More on the Gutek Film website, of course!

Direction for cooperation. U.S. relations with Pomerania

The strength and importance of establishing and developing lasting relationships between people and institutions combining the potential of American business and education and Pomeranian partners in this area – these are the main topics of the meeting organized on July 16 at Olivia Sky Club by the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland. As part of the programme of the event, which took place in unique spaces with a view of the beautiful panorama of the Tri-City, in the Olivia Business Centre, a debate and a seminar were held.

The special guests of the meeting were 6 lecturers from 16 American universities who visited Poland as part of the Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program. Poland is one of only three countries (along with India and Ecuador) where this prestigious program takes place this year. The organizer of the visit, which began on July 9, is the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission. During the four-week program, participants visit the largest academic centers in Poland and have the opportunity to meet experts from various academic fields who will share their knowledge on international relations, focusing on the United States and Poland. In addition to Warsaw, guests from the USA visit Łódź, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Poznan and Krakow, as well as many smaller towns. After the visit, the participants will prepare plans of classes on selected aspects related to Poland, as well as conduct them at their universities in the upcoming academic year.

The meeting began with a presentation by Joanna Bojarska-Buchcic on the development, cooperation and economic exchange between American investors and companies and institutions from Pomerania.

According to a KPMG report published in April this year, American companies investing in Poland are an integrated part of the economy and contribute to its growth and development. The value of U.S. investments in Poland after the first quarter of 2018 could reach PLN 130 billion. Companies from across the Atlantic make up as many as 220,000 companies. jobs where the average wage is higher than the corresponding value for the economy as a whole. An extensive network of business partners testifies to the high level of integration of American companies that contribute to the creation of added value in the Polish economy. U.S. companies are also involved in CSR activities, strive for gender parity among employees, and intensively cooperate with universities, creating joint projects in the area of research and development. The most popular form of cooperation with schools is offering internships to pupils and students. American companies also create their own dedicated educational programs that can support young people in entering the labor market or engage them in social projects. From the point of view of increasing Polish’s innovation, it is important to implement joint R+D projects by companies and universities. U.S. companies are highly integrated into the Polish economy.

Another element of the event’s agenda was a panel led by Marta Moksa, Managing Director of the O4 Coworking Centre operating within the Olivia Business Centre. The O4 space can be considered as an example of innovative thinking in business, thanks to which it was possible to create one of the largest coworking spaces in Poland. O4 really connects entrepreneurs with a conference and training space, an idea with a business, a flexible office space with services needed by small and medium-sized companies (financing, education, support at Go Global). The O4 coworking ecosystem is based on 4 pillars, meeting the most important needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. O4 also cooperates with various European and global organizations and associations to support innovative market ventures in the most effective way.

All panelists agreed that Gdańsk is a unique place on the map – the cradle of Solidarity, which has always brought together enterprising people looking for opportunities and freedom. This freedom has a dimension both within the social innovations noticed by the representative of the University of Gdańsk, Dr. Adam Jagiełło-Rusiłowski, and within the area of business (which was emphasized by both Wojciech Tyborowski from Invest in Pomerania and Jaśmina Zwierz-Janiak from the Gdańsk Science and Technology Park). Gdansk’s heritage and atmosphere have a positive impact on the level of cooperation between big business, universities and the startup world.

Summing up the meeting, Marta Moksa presented the important elements influencing the possibilities of business development and achieving success in the global dimension:

“It is important that all representatives of business support organizations precisely see their role in the ecosystem necessary to build a sustainable and growing business – from proper education of young talents (UG, PG), through supporting innovators (GPNT), opening the best to the world (OBC, O4) to promoting Pomerania in the eyes of large international companies (Invest in Pomerania). An interesting example of such a path/story is IVONA/Alexa/Amazon – an inspiring story about an extraordinary innovation that grew out of a technology park, which led its creators to international success, continued at OBC.”

A very good atmosphere of the meeting and the exchange of thoughts, also in the backstage part, made the event an extraordinary opportunity to look at our experiences in the eyes of American scientists who are friendly to Poland. You could also notice their exceptional curiosity about how our Pomeranian ecosystem functions. There were also questions about the essence of investments based on EU funds, about social capital and trust in public institutions and contractors, about what we can learn from the Americans, and what they were inspired by us and needed by every look at us from a broader perspective.

Both the participants of the meeting with Polish (representatives of institutions, business and universities) and the guests from the USA emphasized the importance of the meeting, primarily due to the opportunity to listen carefully to the stories of our successes, as well as the effective exchange of experiences and the use of observations of the development of global business projects located in Pomerania.

Agreement on MEVO signed at Olivia Business Centre

One of the most important documents for our metropolis in recent years has been signed in Olivia. Representatives of the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area and the contractor, NB Tricity, signed an agreement for the construction of the MEVO City Bike. The system in the “commencement” version is to be ready this autumn. In all 14 signatory communes, in Spring 2019.

MEVO is the flagship and the most important undertaking implemented in Pomerania as part of the Regional Operational Program. “It is the most modern public bicycle system in Poland. In addition, with nearly 4,100 bicycles powered by electric drive in the “fleet”, it will be the largest undertaking of this type in the world” – Marek Pogorzelski, NB Tricity spokesman, said during the ceremony. No wonder that such a significant agreement was signed in the Olivia Business Centre – a place from which you can look at the entire metropolis.

Let us remind you that MEVO will operate in 14 communes: Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot, Tczew, Puck, Reda, Kartuzy, Sierakowice, Somonin, Stężyca, Władysławowo, Żukowo, Pruszcz Gdański and Rumia. The contractor and supplier is NB Tricity.

The project “Construction of the OMG-G-S Metropolitan Bicycle” is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Program of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for the years 2014-2020. Co-financing from EU funds is PLN 17,218,259.

DJ Wika on Viva Oliwa, or how we connect generations :)

The seventh edition of the colorful holiday of one of the oldest and most beautiful districts of Gdańsk – Oliwa has taken place. “Viva Oliva!” is an atmospheric cultural picnic combined with the presentation of dozens of institutions and educational establishments, artists, craftsmen, companies and enterprises associated with Oliwa. The event is a great opportunity to meet and integrate many people and environments. The theme for years is the same: Viva Oliwa! – our common, unique place of life and activities 🙂

The main communication artery of Oliwa, Opat Jacek Rybiński Street, turned for the whole day into a promenade; a perfect place for meetings, games and walks. On June 16 we could visit many thematic stands – there was no shortage of opportunities to talk and learn about the offers of local artists, craftsmen, cultural institutions…

On the scene at Plac Inwalidów Wojen, schools and kindergartens presented themselves. Local artists also performed on it. The highlight of the event was… the intergenerational dance! At the invitation of Olivia Business Centre, it was run by “energy-woman” Wirginia Szmyt, known as DJ WIKA. The unique show of this oldest and undoubtedly the most vital DJ in Poland has taken many multigenerational families to dance. All the participants of Viva Oliva had fun with the biggest hits, those from the recent years, but also those beloved by grandparents or mothers. Over two hours of music set perfectly integrated inhabitants of Oliwa and their friends.

See the video report:

Undoubtedly, we have jointly written a new page in the history of our district! Thanks to music, Oliwa and Olivia connected the generations 🙂

Of course, before the performance, DJ Wika visited the Olivia Business Centre! She admired the Tri-City from the tallest building in Pomerania, Olivia Star.
