For the second year in a row, Sii organizes an innovative educational program called Geek Academy, which is aimed at people who want to start their career in IT. This summer, a group of 25 new technology enthusiasts will face learning programming through intensive coding training from scratch with Geek Academy. The organizers of the Academy guarantee a large dose of practical knowledge from experienced programmers, testers and system architects.
For most of the participants, Geek Academy is a ticket to start a professional career as a programmer or tester – which is confirmed by the fate of the Academy’s students from the first edition. The program was open to people who had no previous industry experience, but had been passionate about new technologies for a long time. Behind each participant there was an interesting story or different motives underlying the decision to change their profession. The Geek Academy was attended by m.in. A lawyer, a beautician, a builder or a chemist. Some even quit their jobs or decided to work night shifts so they could take part in their daily activities.
In the previous edition of Geek Academy, within a month, we managed to introduce more than 20 people to the job market, ready to join the ranks of Tri-City IT companies, 14 of them got a job at Sii itself. We have developed a substantive program that responds to the needs of business and, above all, is practical. Based on the proven solutions developed during the first edition – I am convinced that we will also be able to achieve great success this year – said Alicja Sawicka, Head of the Recruitment and HR Department.
Our students will learn the methodologies of software development, master the basics of Python and C#, as well as gain general knowledge about software quality assurance. From the very beginning, we teach teamwork in the spirit of Agile. Geek Academy is an opportunity to gain valuable qualifications on the job market and develop technical competences – Paweł Czapiewski – known as the Rector of Geek Academy, and professionally associated with Sii as a Senior Software Engineer, introduces the content that the participants will encounter in the upcoming edition.
The second edition of Geek Academy starts on August 1 and will last a month. Classes will be held five times a week, every day for 7 hours from Monday to Friday in the Sii office in Olivia Tower (3rd floor). You should apply for the Academy by sending your CV to geekacademy@pl.sii.eu by July 9, 2016. The selection of candidates is based on an interview and a test part.
